About the Artist
Cherry has been drawing animals since she was old enough to hold a crayon. Through her work she has tried to awaken an appreciation of the unsung heroes in this world, from the tiniest field mouse to endangered species. Her focus over the last few years has narrowed down to dogs, specifically Scotties and Westies.
Her first encounter with a wonderful little Scottie named Annie (rescued from a horrible life in a puppy mill), completely changed her life and won her heart. Through Annie she began working closely with a local rescue group and began painting Scotties in an effort to raise funds for that group. She hasn’t stopped painting since and has made lifelong friends in the process.
Cherry refers to each subject in her paintings as her “kids,” for indeed, she puts all of her heart and soul into each and every dog she paints and in the process becomes quite attached to them. Only when she feels that each creature has taken on a life of its own does she feel she can finally put down her paint brush and know that her work is complete.
Cherry’s greatest reward comes from the response she receives from her patrons and the joy her work brings them. She is so appreciative to find an audience who loves her “kids” as much as she does, and takes great comfort in knowing that she’s sending one of her own off to a good home.
